OMG Where to begin?

That Rachel Did My Head In & RSAnimate told me what I already knew so  there was a big wave and boy did I surf!

Firstly the people who assist me in registering domain names had a yard sale for Christmas. Any domain $1.95,  Here is a summary of the last 6 days:

logocnhalfFrom the TED movie on Collaborative Consumption & the RSAnimate movie on Networks and from looking at what appeared to be largely non-existent, not different from late 20th Century Networks , networks; I thought hmmm 21st Century Networks (RSA+TED) are only just now truly emerging. So I made a vid combining the two and adding >>>>>. I registered the dot com, 21stCenturyNetworks.com as my global domain.I thought this was so supa I went and registered it with the Companies Registration Office (I have an online account) supadupa. What I think is happening is that people are using the Internet properly. Up until recently I believe they were still trapped in 20th Century (Network) Thinking. The aim of 21stCenturyNetworking is to be a facilitator for this awakening. i have skills:

  • I know how to register a domain and I can advise on the choice. Today,  from registration to having a site up and running AND SEO,  took me about 30 minutes AintNothingButTheBlues.com
  • I can host, provide help through videos and I can tell people how to get a decent site up and running in about two hours. Free but Donations accepted.
  • I’m rather good at design. I think the 21stCenturyNetworks logo above is pretty good.
  • I have been using self hosted WordPress blogs for 3 years. I know it backwards. I can teach it.
  • I know html. I can teach the basics.
  • I know SEO (Search Engine Optimization)
  • I can make videos (250 odd on YouTube 80 on blip. All about me but in making them I have learned a hell of a lot.
  • I am in sympathy with Collaborative Consumption
  • Been on the Internet since 1996. That’s 16 years.

Now Host Your Site, Trust Me TED

No I won’t go on about EVERYONE SHOULD HAVE A DOMAIN again. Just sayin I’ve done a site that is more global at http://nhys.biz  now host your site. More resurrections to rebuild my empire . Be ready tomorrow. So started it all off seriously in 2001 with this logo A gold Isis1 (Irish Secure Internet Services) carrying Irish Secure. Still looks good. 11 years later. The site was dominated by encryption, not heard much these day, people seem to be resigned to the fact that ALL their emails are read. Ho hum. There is no privacy so I don’t know why people want to be “private”. i can encrypt, I know the code. But why? I have nothing to hide. Lets ask what you think, a straw poll :

Moving on

I came across a great video you might like. Here it is :

I think this is all very exciting “Collaborative Consumption” We all have skills and I bet  they are marketable. my skills are setting up domains and WordPress blogs. And too web site design. I’ve given up the idea of making a fortune, the prices I charge (Domain registration is cost) are enough to keep things going. Like tens of thousands of others in the world e.g. Linux programmers, its the satisfaction of doing a good job and enriching peoples lives is what turns me on. This is my “Reputation Dashboard” . The Internet is vast, the amount of knowledge is endless. Social Networking has become the main driver behind so many people getting online for  longer and longer. I have a 24/7 connection high speed upload and download. With the advent of fiber optics connections from anywhere to anywhere will be instantaneous. YouTube for example will accept 2 gigabyte video files. The only place to effect change is through The Internet, a letter to your Congressman will not cut the mustard.

I set up this blog just over a month ago and have had over a thousand views. Not bad. You will also see I figure quite highly in the search engines. I love writing. Not especially good at it but love doing it. Wish people would leave comments so I get some feedback. Ho Hum. Hold The Presses. Breaking News. The Famous Avatar Dude Starship now has his own Domain called DudeStarship.com. He earned the €10 by hosting in second life. What a Dude a……..

THANKS TO http://LightBulbJokes.com

Q: How many Bill Gates’ does it take to change a light bulb?
A: One. He puts the bulb in and lets the world revolve around him.
Q: How many Microsoft executives does it take to change a light bulb?
A: We can see no need for uninstallation and have therefore made no provision for light bulbs to be removed.
Q: How many MicroSoft tech support people dies it take to change a light bulb?
A: We have an exact copy of the light bulb here, and it seems to be working fine. Can you tell me what kind of system you have? Okay. Now exactly how dark is it? Okay, there could be 4 or 5 things wrong…have you tried the light switch?
Q: How many MicroSoft technicians does it take to change a light bulb?
A: Three. Two to hold the ladder and one to hammer the bulb into a faucet.Q: How many MicroSoft vice presidents does it take to change a light bulb?
A: Eight. One to work the bulb, and seven to make sure that MicroSoft gets $2 for every light bulb ever changed anywhere in the world.

Q: How many MicroSoft testers does it take to change a light bulb?
A: We just determine that the room is dark; we don’t actually change the bulb. Since we have a dead-bulb result on file from a previous test, rest assured that Development is working on a bug fix.

Q: How many MicroSoft shipping department personnel does it take to change a light bulb?
A: We can change the bulb in 7 to 10 working days. If you call before 2 PM, and pay an extra $15, we can get the bulb changed overnight. Don’t forget to put your name in the upper right hand corner of the light bulb box.

Q: How many Windows users does it take to change a light bulb?
A: One. But they’ll swear up and down that it was JUST as easy as it would be for a Mac user.

Q: How many MicroSoft managers does it take to change a light bulb?
A: We’ve formed a task force to study the problem of why light bulbs burn out, and to determine what, exactly, we as supervisors can do to make the bulbs work smarter, not harder.

Q: How many MicroSoft engineers does it take to change a light bulb?
A: None. Bill Gates will just redefine Darkness(TM) as the new industry standard.

Second Life Hosting and

2ndlife.biz refers

Graphic Designers and professional web designers are princesses and princes and are paid accordingly. Always wanted to be one but between you and me and this blog (just between us ok?) I’m not good enough. Sure I know html (hypertext markup language) even a bit of html 5 . I can recognise segments of code and nick them if they are not copyrighted. But friends why bother? There are a million free WordPress themes. AND web site templates. All free. AND if you find a really really good one buy it. I did for 2ndLife.biz. Its gorgeous and omg costs me 8 euros a month! Shock! Horror! 2 euros a week that’s, hang on, oh shit about 21 cents a day. Damn and me living on disability. The cat will have to go, she costs me 80 cents a day. Could have 4 web sites ….I’M JOKING>

I just do not understand why people are not internet freaks like me.

In this one-hour documentary produced by the BBC in 1990, Douglas falls asleep in front of a television and dreams about future time when he may be allowed to play a more active role in the information he chooses to digest. A software agent, Tom (played by Tom Baker), guides Douglas around a multimedia information landscape, examining (then) cuttting-edge research by the SF Multimedia Lab and NASA Ames research center, and encountering hypermedia visionaries such as Vannevar Bush and Ted Nelson. Looking back now, it’s interesting to see how much he got right and how much he didn’t: these days, no one’s heard of the SF Multimedia Lab, and his super-high-tech portrayal of VR in 2005 could be outdone by a modern PC with a 3D card. However, these are just minor niggles when you consider how much more popular the technologies in question have become than anyone could have predicted – for while Douglas was creating Hyperland, a student at CERN in Switzerland was working on a little hypertext project he called the World Wide Web…

LANGUAGE: English
PUBLISHER: BBC

The point is Douglas was tired of the passivity of watching television; Here is the opening of the movie:

He thought there would be an Avatar to assist him through the internet, cyberspace. We do not have such a thing unless Google bots can be called that. The multi media lab no longer exist and the only micons we have are the ones I created and yes I own micons.org and made hundreds of them . Here’s one i like :

tigerzoomSo we are interactive. um…er… is web surfing different from channel surfing?  Of course we have 600 million vids on youtube but is that different from just having 600 tv channels? We have a global community like Facebook AND ANYTIME ANYWHERE I can poke a friend. Second Life has Avatars now we are getting somewhere, well to 30 to 50k people. We have blogs.

How many posts are published on WordPress.com?

WordPress.com users produce about 29.2 million new posts

I spent a good while sussing out my comments plug in. Because :

How many people read blogs on WordPress.com?

Over 395 million people view more than 3.7 billion pages each month.

40.5 million new comments each month.

So here we have great interactivity. Youtube has comments.

What gets to me I guess is that people do not seem to be a part of it all. If I lived in a city I would want a cool address. I would also want a cool mail address (jeez I’ve been saying this sine 1998, still they don’t listen). I have philipjamesbryan@live.com (hate country names) . its my name. I have Philip and Dude @irishsecure.com for twitter i have pj@micons.org . info@2ndlife.biz and now admin@imacoolchick.com for staff i am hiring. If I need an email address i just create one. Takes 30 seconds and they all have web mail. No no no I don’t check each one I have them all forwarded to philip@irishsecure.com which I keep open all the time.

So kids there you have it., I can do no more than offer my services. Domains cost 15 bucks hosting 9 bucks a month getting me as Tech Support and will throw in a web site and blog. AND training if you need it.  C’mon guys the internet is here to stay, start living it. Go to Services page

Digital Art

I was never very good at Art. At school I had all these brilliant ideas, my imagination flew, but when it came to putting pencil to paper, well even my stick men looked stupid. technology has always been a love of mine. At 5 years old my dad would bring me home instruments and magnets to play with. He worked in Smiths Industries making things like tachometers. I’m good at manipulating software. Ah but Photoshop I could never come to grips with. I did an online course and got the basics sorted but the more sophisticated stuff is beyond me.

However I can do a bit. Here is an attempt; This is a background i captured from the 3d world blue mars:

Then using Photoshop I captured avatars and removed their backgrounds and put them in and made this :

This is my first attempt at using Photoshop. i have a long way to go. Please right click on the pictures and View Image. They are very big. I have set up a gallery in sl called Don’t Panic. Here is the idea :

They get a website out of it too. It might just be a profile picture or it might be a whole scene. We will see. Meanwhile here is my best attempt so far :

What do you think?

Pissed Off

Cyberculture dot com

What do you get? A Broken Link. And two results one to wiki and one to a book:

A clear explanation and provocative look at the impact of new technologies on world society.

Needing guidance and seeking insight, the Council of Europe approached Pierre Lévy, one of the world’s most important and well-respected theorists of digital culture, for a report on the state (and, frankly, the nature) of cyberspace. The result is this extraordinary document, a perfectly lucid and accessible description of cyberspace-from infrastructure to practical applications-along with an inspired, far-reaching exploration of its ramifications. A window on the digital world for the technologically timid, the book also offers a brilliant vision of the philosophical and social realities and possibilities of cyberspace for the adept and novice alike.

WRITTEN IN 2001 fer gods sake. We were using dial ups …….jeez.!

Cyberculture.org……an ad

Cyberculture.net…….an ad

Cyberculture.wordpress.com ……Taken down by author no longer available,

Really I ask you. Is Cyberculture not a viable term? HUH? What Happened? Idiots just don’t keep up so I’m pissed off. I’ve been at this Internet game for 16 years! Sixteen Fucking Y E A R S. Still I seem to be running backwards to keep up. So I’m Pissed Off……again. Here is my first Irish Secure Internet Site.

First created in 2001. Have a look.!!!! It was updated all the way through 2005 when I went Bust!  <<<<Click! Its on the Way Back machine. The Internet has been crawled since 1996. The way back machine has archived something like 300 Billion Web Pages now >>>

The Wayback Machine is an historical archive of preserved web pages.  Type in a URL and start surfing through time!

Most societies agree that it is important to preserve artifacts of their culture and heritage. Without such artifacts, civilization has no memory and no mechanism to learn from its successes and failures. Our culture now produces more and more artifacts in digital form. Internet Archive’s mission is to help preserve those artifacts and create an Internet library for researchers, historians, and scholars. The Archive collaborates with institutions including the Library of Congress and the Smithsonian.

The archive of pages goes back to 1996.  The original Wayback Machine interface was released in 2001 with about 10 billion pages.

So There!

So….What to do?

Create Cyberkulture dot com. go see.

YES TYPE IT JEEZ EVERYONE WANTS LINKS WHY THE FUCK CAN’T THEY JUST REMEMBER IT ? ITS CYBERCULTURE SPELT WITH A  K DOT COM! OK?
