Isn’t it about time you got your own domain? Getting your dot com has never been easier and if you run a WordPress site its indispensable, you will have plugins!
Its cheap too getting started will only cost you $13.95 for registration and first month then $10 per month after that.
You will get online 24/7/365 instant chat support which can’t be beat.
You will get cPanel an easy way to manage your site.
Email: At last you can have firstname.lastname@example.org no more email@example.com . Using the online web mail you will have easy access to your email account. You can also forward any mail from one address to another. I recommend Horde.
It looks good. Having your own domain on the Internet is really cool. Really. Looks great on your CV.
I’ve had IrishSecure.com since 2001 that’s sixteen years. Wow! Been with HostGator for over 7 and had no downtime.
Host with HostGator. I have been a customer of HostGator for seven years. Their web servers are very fast, based in Austin Texas very much on the Internet backbone. Their 24/7 online chat cannot be beaten. They use the latest interface cPanel which is very intuitive and easy to use. They are not expensive and are worth every penny. They offer all types of domains not just dot com, org and net. You will be able to get your top level domain with no problem. I host 36 top level domains with them. There is no down time. You can get started for as little as $13.95 including domain name for a year and hosting for your first month, its $10 a month after that. All you need is a credit / debit card to get started. You can also use PayPal.
(all links are in bold and open a new window) Its funny I spent a few posts warning you about freebies now I am giving you some. Firstly let me give you a Freebie. If you need to capture ANY image on your computer screem then get 4Shared Shotit is awesome. You can capture anything on your screen. It sits in your task bar tray. Another great facility is Zoom.it You can have any image on the net and zoomify it.
Here is a list of my Domains. At €10 a year why not? 21st Century Networks,( 2stcn a short form for convenience), is the global site for my domains. Avatar Creations is to provide a professional service for business and academics using Second Life, a 3D Immersive cybercommunity. Family Blogs does what it says, every family should have a blog. with a colleague we run two radio stations. Freedom Radio is in process. Most of the cyber domains do what they say on the box. Dude Starship is my avatar.
Hosting and domain registration, sub domains are 2ndlife, Irish Secure, nhys.biz (wix), secondlifehosting.com (wixx) ImACoolChick, and my virtual space. mygf and mybf are for those who want a sub domain eg wynter.mygf.biz,dude.mybf.biz
My Blues sites are still in the embryo stage, I have yet to contact the DJs and the hosts to get their take on the blues in second life. I’ll put them up on secondlifeblues.com. I think it will be really interesting.
Dunno, pjfbncyl, this blog, omgg, oknp, jnanabodhi (my Buddhist site), onlymoi, are all personal domains. Registering domains is my hobby. As I have my own hosting company it costs nothin to host. I generally put up a front page then a blog in a sub directory. omgg.net took 20 minutes to do the front page and about 2 hours to do blog.omgg.net i love 4 lette domains that have a meaning. omgg has loads:
IF YOU NEED ANTI VIRUS SOFTWARE then be cautious. I runMicrosoft Security Essentials I find other anti virus software a pain. This is free and is designed by microsoft for microsoft operating systems. Makes sense to me.
I use free web sites to test, advertise and to see what they can do. I have :
Webnode : I like webnode it uses a nice interface. If you want to practice go for it. Here is a site I made BUT if your reguster with them YOU DO NOT GET CPANEL (control panel) So you are severly limited with what you can do. Great for practice no good for permanent.
Weebly : Uses the same modular sustem as Webnode . It works well and I have an advertising site there. You can view it here but I haven’t finished yet. Been getting 3 emails a day asking me to upgrade. No htank you. No control panel only the modules.
Wix : I love theinterface its html 5 far superior to the others. I bought two templates I liked it so much. http://secondlifehosting.com BUT AGAIN NO control panel. I registerd that domain so I could use the template for http://2ndlife.biz it is a mirror BUT I have control panel with 2ndlife.biz with unlimited emails, sub domains etc etc.
WordPress will offer to host your domain however if it does you do not get s self hosted site with plugins. You are limited. I registered two so i could get the dot me addresses eCollege.me and hyperconnectivity.me its expensive too.
These sites are all well and good but they end up producing the same kind of web site. Always ask can I create sub domains and the important one EMAILS! You want to have full control over them. The sites above are a blog. REMEMBER A DOMAIN IS FOR A LONG TIME NOT JUST FOR CHRISTMAS ………hardy har har but you get my drift.
The Internet is not static. However you can be sure the generic top level domains, dot com, biz, info, net amd org are not going away. We have seen a major revolution in the programming language of the web, html5. I want a control panel to CONTROL my domain. I do not want someone else to control it. I want to control emails too.
Some see Second Life as a game. It isn’t. It is a 3D world that you experience as an Avatar. Wiki says:
In Hinduism, an avatar/ˈævətɑr/ (Hindustani: [əʋt̪aːr], from Sanskritअवतारavatāra “descent”) is a deliberate descent of a deity to earth, or a descent of the Supreme Being (i.e., Vishnu for Vaishnavites), and is mostly translated into English as “incarnation”, but more accurately as “appearance” or “manifestation”.
Your avatar is your representation descended down to the 3D cybercommunity of second life. You have or can have god like powers. You can create your own realm or join with others in theirs. You are as tall or as short, fat or thin as you like. I am of average build and 7ft 6ins tall (228cms) One of my favourite cybercommunities in second life is that of the blues community. I was in Junkyard Blues Club and we were talking about sailing. The realm or sim is based in The Gulf of Mexico. With a wave of my hand I manifested or rezzed a beautiful fully equipped 60ft yacht and invited 6 people to come sailing with me. I can raise sails including a spinnaker control the wind and sail around the 13 sims. [there is a video below, sailing on a 200 sim ocean. Remember I am seven and a half feet tall, for scale purposes.] Quite god like. I also have the ability to create peacocks any number anywhere it is allowed by the locale. I have two on my island. Pippi and Clara. The animations like many in second life are created using motion capture of the real thing. Quite god like. When the Greek gods visited the world they were of pleasing countenance. As was Krishna. If you are a professional in second life you will need a “pleasing countenance” to be taken seriously. A new avatar with jerky movements and inept mannerisms will not be accepted. The cost to you is small compared to the advantages. Second life is expanding more and more into teaching and into professional role playing. There appear to be some cognitive benefits too. This is being explored. It is free to join, so please join us for an enriching professional experience.
That Rachel Did My Head In & RSAnimate told me what I already knew so there was a big wave and boy did I surf!
Firstly the people who assist me in registering domain names had a yard sale for Christmas. Any domain $1.95, Here is a summary of the last 6 days:
From the TED movie on Collaborative Consumption & the RSAnimate movie on Networks and from looking at what appeared to be largely non-existent, not different from late 20th Century Networks , networks; I thought hmmm 21st Century Networks (RSA+TED) are only just now truly emerging. So I made a vid combining the two and adding >>>>>. I registered the dot com, 21stCenturyNetworks.com as my global domain.I thought this was so supa I went and registered it with the Companies Registration Office (I have an online account) supadupa. What I think is happening is that people are using the Internet properly. Up until recently I believe they were still trapped in 20th Century (Network) Thinking. The aim of 21stCenturyNetworking is to be a facilitator for this awakening. i have skills:
I know how to register a domain and I can advise on the choice. Today, from registration to having a site up and running AND SEO, took me about 30 minutes AintNothingButTheBlues.com
I can host, provide help through videos and I can tell people how to get a decent site up and running in about two hours. Free but Donations accepted.
I’m rather good at design. I think the 21stCenturyNetworks logo above is pretty good.
I have been using self hosted WordPress blogs for 3 years. I know it backwards. I can teach it.
I know html. I can teach the basics.
I know SEO (Search Engine Optimization)
I can make videos (250 odd on YouTube 80 on blip. All about me but in making them I have learned a hell of a lot.
Graphic Designers and professional web designers are princesses and princes and are paid accordingly. Always wanted to be one but between you and me and this blog (just between us ok?) I’m not good enough. Sure I know html (hypertext markup language) even a bit of html 5 . I can recognise segments of code and nick them if they are not copyrighted. But friends why bother? There are a million free WordPress themes. AND web site templates. All free. AND if you find a really really good one buy it. I did for 2ndLife.biz. Its gorgeous and omg costs me 8 euros a month! Shock! Horror! 2 euros a week that’s, hang on, oh shit about 21 cents a day. Damn and me living on disability. The cat will have to go, she costs me 80 cents a day. Could have 4 web sites ….I’M JOKING>
I just do not understand why people are not internet freaks like me.
In this one-hour documentary produced by the BBC in 1990, Douglas falls asleep in front of a television and dreams about future time when he may be allowed to play a more active role in the information he chooses to digest. A software agent, Tom (played by Tom Baker), guides Douglas around a multimedia information landscape, examining (then) cuttting-edge research by the SF Multimedia Lab and NASA Ames research center, and encountering hypermedia visionaries such as Vannevar Bush and Ted Nelson. Looking back now, it’s interesting to see how much he got right and how much he didn’t: these days, no one’s heard of the SF Multimedia Lab, and his super-high-tech portrayal of VR in 2005 could be outdone by a modern PC with a 3D card. However, these are just minor niggles when you consider how much more popular the technologies in question have become than anyone could have predicted – for while Douglas was creating Hyperland, a student at CERN in Switzerland was working on a little hypertext project he called the World Wide Web…
The point is Douglas was tired of the passivity of watching television; Here is the opening of the movie:
He thought there would be an Avatar to assist him through the internet, cyberspace. We do not have such a thing unless Google bots can be called that. The multi media lab no longer exist and the only micons we have are the ones I created and yes I own micons.org and made hundreds of them . Here’s one i like :
So we are interactive. um…er… is web surfing different from channel surfing? Of course we have 600 million vids on youtube but is that different from just having 600 tv channels? We have a global community like Facebook AND ANYTIME ANYWHERE I can poke a friend. Second Life has Avatars now we are getting somewhere, well to 30 to 50k people. We have blogs.
How many posts are published on WordPress.com?
WordPress.com users produce about 29.2 million new posts
I spent a good while sussing out my comments plug in. Because :
How many people read blogs on WordPress.com?
Over 395 million people view more than 3.7 billion pages each month.
40.5 million new comments each month.
So here we have great interactivity. Youtube has comments.
What gets to me I guess is that people do not seem to be a part of it all. If I lived in a city I would want a cool address. I would also want a cool mail address (jeez I’ve been saying this sine 1998, still they don’t listen). I have firstname.lastname@example.org (hate country names) . its my name. I have Philip and Dude @irishsecure.com for twitter i have email@example.com . firstname.lastname@example.org and now email@example.com for staff i am hiring. If I need an email address i just create one. Takes 30 seconds and they all have web mail. No no no I don’t check each one I have them all forwarded to firstname.lastname@example.org which I keep open all the time.

A clear explanation and provocative look at the impact of new technologies on world society.
Needing guidance and seeking insight, the Council of Europe approached Pierre Lévy, one of the world’s most important and well-respected theorists of digital culture, for a report on the state (and, frankly, the nature) of cyberspace. The result is this extraordinary document, a perfectly lucid and accessible description of cyberspace-from infrastructure to practical applications-along with an inspired, far-reaching exploration of its ramifications. A window on the digital world for the technologically timid, the book also offers a brilliant vision of the philosophical and social realities and possibilities of cyberspace for the adept and novice alike.
WRITTEN IN 2001 fer gods sake. We were using dial ups …….jeez.!
Cyberculture.wordpress.com ……Taken down by author no longer available,
Really I ask you. Is Cyberculture not a viable term? HUH? What Happened? Idiots just don’t keep up so I’m pissed off. I’ve been at this Internet game for 16 years! Sixteen Fucking Y E A R S. Still I seem to be running backwards to keep up. So I’m Pissed Off……again. Here is my first Irish Secure Internet Site.
The Wayback Machine is an historical archive of preserved web pages. Type in a URL and start surfing through time!
Most societies agree that it is important to preserve artifacts of their culture and heritage. Without such artifacts, civilization has no memory and no mechanism to learn from its successes and failures. Our culture now produces more and more artifacts in digital form. Internet Archive’s mission is to help preserve those artifacts and create an Internet library for researchers, historians, and scholars. The Archive collaborates with institutions including the Library of Congress and the Smithsonian.
The archive of pages goes back to 1996. The original Wayback Machine interface was released in 2001 with about 10 billion pages.
So….What to do?

Why am I doing this? WELL I think everyone should have a presence on the Internet. EVERYONE. I think everyone should have a decent email address not email@example.com but like firstname.lastname@example.org. I think everyone should have their own space in cyberspace where they can say WHAT THE FUCK? or I LOVE YOU. As time goes on who your are will be defined by what your are in cyberspace, if it isn’t already. Its daft to get left behind and great fun too.
