Isn’t it about time you got your own domain? Getting your dot com has never been easier and if you run a WordPress site its indispensable, you will have plugins!
Its cheap too getting started will only cost you $13.95 for registration and first month then $10 per month after that.
You will get online 24/7/365 instant chat support which can’t be beat.
You will get cPanel an easy way to manage your site.
Email: At last you can have firstname.lastname@example.org no more email@example.com . Using the online web mail you will have easy access to your email account. You can also forward any mail from one address to another. I recommend Horde.
It looks good. Having your own domain on the Internet is really cool. Really. Looks great on your CV.
I’ve had IrishSecure.com since 2001 that’s sixteen years. Wow! Been with HostGator for over 7 and had no downtime.
Host with HostGator. I have been a customer of HostGator for seven years. Their web servers are very fast, based in Austin Texas very much on the Internet backbone. Their 24/7 online chat cannot be beaten. They use the latest interface cPanel which is very intuitive and easy to use. They are not expensive and are worth every penny. They offer all types of domains not just dot com, org and net. You will be able to get your top level domain with no problem. I host 36 top level domains with them. There is no down time. You can get started for as little as $13.95 including domain name for a year and hosting for your first month, its $10 a month after that. All you need is a credit / debit card to get started. You can also use PayPal.
I’ve written an article giving my background and what I think of OlderCitizens blogging. Trying to get it published, here it is: Any age can learn to blog and chat about sl which I do. The video at the end is filmed with two avatars dancing on a record. . I will be publishing an sl post soon. I will be spreading the word to older citizens. Please comment I need the feedback.
Older Citizens Blogging
Updated on January 31, 2017 from Hub Pages
The purpose of this hub is to get noticed. As an older citizen I feel marginalised as so many other older citizens do. The purpose of my teaching blog is to help older citizens have a voice. I am 67 years old and feel in many ways to be in my prime.
I write domains as “example dot com” when I want to tell people of a site where there is no need for a link. We sub vocalise when we read which is a memory aid. Of course when we say a web address this is how we say it. It is appropriate when an html link is not appropriate. My first gTLD (global top level domain) is IrishSecure dot com and I have had it since 1998. You can visit it if you like but there is no need for a link. There is also the practice in some platforms and blogs that if you put in example.com it automatically becomes a clickable link. Maybe its idiosyncratic but there seems to be no research on how to remember a web address? It would be easy to set up an experiment to test my theory. Give one group a list of web addresses with words example dot com and the control group example.com and see who remembers more.
I have an honours science degree in Psychology and I am a trained counsellor. I have a masters degree in Social Work. I worked as a Probation Officer for ten years in inner city high crime patch in London. I had 3 murderers on my caseload. I set up and ran an alcohol abuse training course that the courts could sentence to. I did 14 hour shifts in a secure bail hostel on my own. For two years. My reports were used to train magistrates.
I have been around the world, mostly overland. It took ten years. I went to India via the Nile…true story!
I am bipolar.
I have survived lung cancer.
I had my first computer in 1981. In 1986 I helped programme and install a networked touch sensitive computer system for Manpower Services Commission a British government body to access a database, in real time, of job vacancies nationwide. In those days the “computer scientists” in MSC were a bunch of psychologists, the only ones to understand the system. It is now (?) used in every job centre in England well that was in the days of MSC now gone *sigh*.
In 1994 I built my first PC from scratch. In 1996 I set us up as an ISP (Internet Service Provider) with two web servers and two name servers which were built from scrap. We had a Silicon Graphics work station as used by NASA to control the Mars lander. In 2000 we offered secure wireless Internet access to the whole town of Tullamore in Ireland. In 2006 we went bust through lack of support and repercussions of the dot com crash.
My YouTube channel which I set up in 2008 has had over 100k views and there are over 400 videos. I have published over 80 documents on Scribd (not written by me) which have had over 60k views. My major sites have a library of select books all out of print copies I have found, including James Joyce Ulysses, Moby Dick etc. available to read online or download. It’s on this site too as I love it so. My blogs have over 6k subscribers.
Currently I operate a rented web server and name servers and have 25 gTLDs and untold WordPress blogs. The blog linked below took a week to set up including content.
I know what I am doing.
If you don’t blow your own trumpet will someone else? Older Citizens should have a voice, my aim is to give them one.
“The good news is that far from slowing down in old age, the brain can actually keep growing new dendrites, which are the connections between neurons. Old brains are as plastic as young brains; in fact, the connections between the two hemispheres of our brains become better integrated with age……”
Dr. Natash Josefowitz “On becoming 90” Huffington Post
Yet there are some failings as Dr.Josefowitz points out in the excellent article. I find, myself, memories of 50 or more years ago can be quite fresh but I forget the password I created 5 minutes ago AND I am only 67. I use sticky notes on my computer to remember stuff. So clearly things aren’t perfect. However it doesn’t stop me. My email box is littered with “password reset” notices. No big deal. This has been recognised by the powers that be and I can log on using a one click Facebook login.
I blog a lot and I find it keeps my brain ticking over nicely. I learn new stuff everyday and the important bits I retain. So the idea that learning stops at a certain age is a fallacy. So with this in mind I decided to teach blogging to older citizens and that it can be done. There is a noticeable lack of older citizens blogging and this needs changing. It helps greatly that with a computer and access to the Internet this is not difficult. It could be done in a library, It takes minutes to set up a wordpress blog. When you are in wordpress dot com “If it doesn’t exist register it” . How Zen! People use their name which makes it easy to remember. Given that there are there are approximately over 150 million blogs on the Internet getting a name may pose some problems however marionjwinslow for example or billwatkinssuperblog are probably available. Just need a bit of imagination.
Capitals are ok
The web treats capitals as lower case so when you are writing the name of your blog you can write it as MarionJWilson or BillsSuperBlog which makes it that more memorable when people read it. They don’t have to write it in capitals as a link BUT IT MAKES NO DIFFERENCE! So be imaginative and you can write a short but memorable sentence. MaybeOldButWhoCares is a potential blog address, it is memorable and that is the important thing. When chatting with friends you can say “MaybeOldButWhoCares dot wordpress dot com” and they will remember it. (By the way the teaching blog I have set up on wordpress is 100% free and there is no reason to spend any money).
So I registered it. Any Older Citizen who wants it let me know in the comments and I’ll give them a login
After an extensive trawl I can find no research that has investigated cognition and blogging in the older citizen. Nor the potential impact on feelings of isolation and exclusion. Nor on the potential impact on family life. If a persons mother starts putting up pictures of when they were a child or writing about a holiday they had in 1965; anything that gives the son or daughter an historical perspective will bring families closer.
I have a very old family album which goes back to 1949 – 1952 and I used my camera phone to take a picture of the photograph. I then uploaded it to my computer and added it to my blog. Any family picture can be put in a blog.
A free wordpress blog is there in perpetuity not so people. If you have left a blog as a legacy how uplifting it can be. There needs to be research on the impact of blogging on mood. As the population ages, older citizens are a potential resource that shouldn’t be ignored.
Me and Mum 1949
The good old days
I read an interesting article on Facebook by an 86 year old who was lamenting the passing of an age in England that was post WW2 a time of the creation of free health care, a boom in affordable housing, education blossoming and freely available work. Its on my blog. After watching I, Daniel Blake it makes you wonder about the value we put on citizens today. Older citizens can take the values of yesterday and resurrect them for today’s generation and demand a return to things we hold dear. Compassion and honesty being the watch words. Daniel Blake received no compassion.
So I have set up a teaching blog for getting older citizens blogging. I have used video extensively with text support; a complimentary oldercitizens dot com and a quick start dot org. I am in the process of propagating it globally (why not?) and have plans to set up complimentary country sub domains on the dot com. It took me a week to set up the three sites including content so not much reaction yet. This is a free service not a business. No profit is being asked for nor made. Below is a video I made for adding your first post. Please watch full screen.
There are four main sections to get you started
Setting up and registering your blog
Your first post
Inserting an image and embedding a video
Changing the theme
There are also sundry pages:
Useful Programs including the free Microsoft Expression Design image editor
A page on Widgets
And a Library of books (pdfs for online reading or download) which I love and put on all my sites including this one.
This may take some time but having retired I have time, its a hobby as well as I hope a valued service. Getting noticed on the Internet is not easy and I know this. I put up my first web page in 1996 (its still there in Archives) and during a five year period as an ISP (Internet Service Provider) I am no stranger to the web. I rent my own web server and name servers so I know what I’m doing. The cost is minimal, a few Euro a week. What I am doing now is spreading the word so please visit the site leave a comment or fill out the form provided. I need feedback so I can improve. Nothing is set in stone and I will respond to both criticism and praise but I have high hopes. Hope you enjoyed this hub, there is a poll……
So today is my rez day, been in second life one year today and all I do is crash. Its been a wonderful year all in all. Changed my Life in many ways. It gave me an interest perhaps even a passion. I joined and immersed myself in this online community. I’ve known love and loss, sunshine and tears. Made friendships going beyond second life into the real world. Second Life is a wonderful cybercommunity which I have researched and come up with a tome = http://Cyberculture.co yes dot co not dot com . The dot com , net, biz, info, org are all being squatted. I wrote it as nothing had been written about cybercommunities from the users point of view, one who was involved.
Here is a list of my friends. All of them are special and have had their moments. Some have been lovers.
Wow think I have about 100 friends, know all of them well, the ones at the beginning are those on line its 5.30 am my time 11.30 pm sl time Saturday. Bard is spinning and I’m listening via http://Junkyardlive.com I’m hosting at 2am Sunday til 6am. Its the people that make sl so special. Everyone I have met I think yes almost everyone I met at the Junkyard. (fan site here) Its the blues people the blues. This is a special breed blues people. I’m relatively new to the blues but I love it.
“There are happy blues, sad blues, lonesome blues,
red-hot blues, mad blues, and loving blues. Blues
is a testimony to the fullness of life.” – Corey Harris
From the Official Junkyard Site‘ when I first arrived in sl I found the Junkyard on my second day. I was immediately drawn to the music and the people. I just hung out there all the time. My goal early on was to become a part of this. I knew from previous rl experience that if i just waited an opening would occur. I’ve done this in rl . So I hung out. I have told you the story of partners which says a lot. In between times there were flings of course. I get on well with women. I guess you would call me gregarious. I explored and joined other clubs sticking to the blues tho Blackhearts a rock club was an exception. How would I sum up my first year in sl? Well I discovered the blues.
Of course the most important thing that happened to me was I met Storm Constantine Love You Babe!!
I come across gems in second life. I think it is the blues community, nice thinking. My fav blogger is Serendipity Haven (serenhaven.wordpress.com)who writes little stories that are so informative and entertaining. Highly recommended. AND not just for second life users either. I have blogged about her before. Read her latest offering, its very informative.
Take my partner, she has an awesome job that keeps her very busy but she spends much of her spare time with me. In her “spare” time she is a poet and has her own site. JessikaJenvieve.com fabulous poetry. Heres one she wrote for me:
It is Best
You wanted a love song
I don’t have the words
Cordelia – like, I have nothing to say
but it is inside,
I just can’t put my finger on.
You want forever and I want you to tell me
the pain in my head won’t kill me.
I want you to make my tea and a cheese sandwich.
I don’t want words, I want silence.
There’s a tangle of lyrics out there
waiting for me to catch my foot in them.
Pick the wrong one and you will fire up again.
Say nothing, it is safe.
It is best.
“I’m a mature socialite cougar 60 k living in millionaires paradise” she says on skype……Love her sense of humour. We get on so well and are partners in second life, the online community. We spend a lot of time chatting to a background of the blues. Here you can see us dancing. At the top right are private messages bottom left are local messages.
While hosting (a host manages the dj session greeting people and providing help like joining the group) I met a person who was fun to chat to, who I hadn’t met before. She too has a blog and this is what I found:
We seem to think that big events and weighty, important conversations make the bulk of a relationship. Yet .. it’s chatting of little nothings .. how spring air moves and caresses across the face .. picking dandelions and sending them off to seed other places .. or sharing two blades of grass with a friend and trying to make a blade-of-grass kazoo together.
Lobbing nonesense words and silly verses between us .. twirling and feinting at nothing .. nothing moments are what I miss.
If you are the very best of friends with me, I will fill you with letters of little nothings.
One of the things people love to do is take photos in second life it is very photogenic. So here is a gallery a person I met in a European blues club. Name of Schlock who has a wonderful talking parrot called Clyde with, i would say, artificial intelligence!!!!
Heres the gallery, sorry missed Clyde but i sent Schlock an email coz he should have a blog!!
All this is just a taste of the variety of people that you meet in second life. It is a community of intelligent diverse people. Possibly it is the blues community as this is all i have experience of. I am still exploring and have lots to learn. I will have been in second life for a year. Yes I am addicted.
Its not a problem
Here is a picture of my Storm Constantine (aka Jessika) we have known each other for six months and we decided to partner. This means we have made a commitment to share and cherish each other. It may be likened to a marriage, the “ceremony” was an email and now we appear in each others profile.
There is a wonderful thing that happens in second life. You become one with your avatar and truly your avatar becomes an extension of yourself. when you join with another avatar like in a dance something magical happens. You begin to feel with your avatar. Holding your partner becomes as though you are holding a real person and in some ways you are. It feels real. You can get incredibly close to someone. It starts in chat. As in anywhere / place chatting to someone brings you close to that person. We have chat in secondlife. However how do you explain a kiss producing a physical response in real life? Second Life is awesome. I can only suggest you try it for yourself. If you need a decent avatar let Avatar Creations know and we will make you beautiful.
(all links are in bold and open a new window) Its funny I spent a few posts warning you about freebies now I am giving you some. Firstly let me give you a Freebie. If you need to capture ANY image on your computer screem then get 4Shared Shotit is awesome. You can capture anything on your screen. It sits in your task bar tray. Another great facility is Zoom.it You can have any image on the net and zoomify it.
Here is a list of my Domains. At €10 a year why not? 21st Century Networks,( 2stcn a short form for convenience), is the global site for my domains. Avatar Creations is to provide a professional service for business and academics using Second Life, a 3D Immersive cybercommunity. Family Blogs does what it says, every family should have a blog. with a colleague we run two radio stations. Freedom Radio is in process. Most of the cyber domains do what they say on the box. Dude Starship is my avatar.
Hosting and domain registration, sub domains are 2ndlife, Irish Secure, nhys.biz (wix), secondlifehosting.com (wixx) ImACoolChick, and my virtual space. mygf and mybf are for those who want a sub domain eg wynter.mygf.biz,dude.mybf.biz
My Blues sites are still in the embryo stage, I have yet to contact the DJs and the hosts to get their take on the blues in second life. I’ll put them up on secondlifeblues.com. I think it will be really interesting.
Dunno, pjfbncyl, this blog, omgg, oknp, jnanabodhi (my Buddhist site), onlymoi, are all personal domains. Registering domains is my hobby. As I have my own hosting company it costs nothin to host. I generally put up a front page then a blog in a sub directory. omgg.net took 20 minutes to do the front page and about 2 hours to do blog.omgg.net i love 4 lette domains that have a meaning. omgg has loads:
IF YOU NEED ANTI VIRUS SOFTWARE then be cautious. I runMicrosoft Security Essentials I find other anti virus software a pain. This is free and is designed by microsoft for microsoft operating systems. Makes sense to me.
I use free web sites to test, advertise and to see what they can do. I have :
Webnode : I like webnode it uses a nice interface. If you want to practice go for it. Here is a site I made BUT if your reguster with them YOU DO NOT GET CPANEL (control panel) So you are severly limited with what you can do. Great for practice no good for permanent.
Weebly : Uses the same modular sustem as Webnode . It works well and I have an advertising site there. You can view it here but I haven’t finished yet. Been getting 3 emails a day asking me to upgrade. No htank you. No control panel only the modules.
Wix : I love theinterface its html 5 far superior to the others. I bought two templates I liked it so much. http://secondlifehosting.com BUT AGAIN NO control panel. I registerd that domain so I could use the template for http://2ndlife.biz it is a mirror BUT I have control panel with 2ndlife.biz with unlimited emails, sub domains etc etc.
WordPress will offer to host your domain however if it does you do not get s self hosted site with plugins. You are limited. I registered two so i could get the dot me addresses eCollege.me and hyperconnectivity.me its expensive too.
These sites are all well and good but they end up producing the same kind of web site. Always ask can I create sub domains and the important one EMAILS! You want to have full control over them. The sites above are a blog. REMEMBER A DOMAIN IS FOR A LONG TIME NOT JUST FOR CHRISTMAS ………hardy har har but you get my drift.
The Internet is not static. However you can be sure the generic top level domains, dot com, biz, info, net amd org are not going away. We have seen a major revolution in the programming language of the web, html5. I want a control panel to CONTROL my domain. I do not want someone else to control it. I want to control emails too.
It just hasn’t happened. However when was the last time you paid to listen to music? When was the last tine you paid to download music? i have watched all 2013 movies. Those I haven’t been able to stream I have downloaded. [must confess dowloaded Anna Karanina ….thats a keeper] for free. I have a 22 inch flat screen on my oak coffee table. I have a decent computer. At the momet I am working as a supervisor to my host gf and the Dj Larai Dreamcatcher, a blues expert. Her set is 2 hours. There’s me dancing on the left in my Clockwork Orange Tee shirt. i’ll pause there. Read on.
In January 2010, a few months after the Iranian uprising, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton delivered a speech, “Remarks on Internet Freedom,” at the Newseum in Washington. “The spread of information networks is forming a new nervous system for our planet,” she told her audience. “When something happens in Haiti or Hunan, the rest of us learn about it in real time—from real people.” Clinton invoked the same emphasis on direct communication—media without mediation—which Shamberg celebrated in video and Sullivan in Twitter, and the same notion of a global mind which McLuhan and Ryan found in Teilhard. ”Now, in many respects, information has never been so free,” Clinton continued, agreeing with countercultural entrepreneur Stewart Brand, who declared in 1984 that “information wants to be free.”Clinton’s optimism was tempered, though. “We must also recognize that these technologies are not an unmitigated blessing,” she continued. “These tools are also being exploited to undermine human progress and political rights.” Beyond that, we should heed Vassi’s warning and recognize the threat that we will be seduced by our tools and their false but persistent promise of revolutionary change without our active political effort. These information technologies can contribute to the success of political movements, but not if their users see them as replacements for political life.
information technology cannot replace political life. I disagree. I am an Electronic Pamphleteer
cyber-utopianism has been summed up neatly by an RSA Animate video The Internet in Society dispelling the myth of what is called iPod liberalism that more technology = Democracy as a matter of course. Just as users / bloggers are being vociferous, totalitarian governments are using this information to help entrench themselves futher. In Thailand there is a support the king web site where users are asked to identify and “out” those speaking against the monarchy. Those web sites are then blocked. Its a depressing view. However I still believe that Information is God and that the ability to produce social change is possible via the internet. Perhaps not through protest but through the likes of CollaborativeConsumption (dot) com see TED.com video where capitalism and our current economic system is being undermined by individuals sharing goods and services. Cited in Time Magazines top ten as things that will change the world. I will still blog and tweet my protests because of my age (63) but true change will only occur when we remove the profit motive from western ideology.
Here is the RSA Animate movie
Iranian Twittergate brouaua where Twitter lost lts social integrity as a public -platform.what a shame “another imperialist lackey” Love twitter posted 4500 tweets 1400 followrers. not many but somehing. I have everything mostly on auto using my bots. because…….
i live the life of a cyber-utopian. I have very fast internet 30% faster than average. i do EVERYTHING on line. I work rest and play in cyberspace. After a brush with cancer I don’t go out much. My job is online I register and host gTLDs, design web sites make videos PersonalDomains.net the aim of personal domains is that everyone on the internet should have thier own domain. I do it for cost.I can be paid in any currency then have it transferred to my rl bank to take out cash INSTANTLY. I can be paid for a job and witin 15 minutes later I could be down the pub buynig drinks. 3 days for a cheque to clear. pfftt. I’m on Skypes 24/7 just as I would be in rl with a landline. ALL my facebook friends have access to it.
I am a dad.
I have an online gf, we meet in second life clubs and Skype. My business partner is in Sydney We talk everyday email and exchage files. we collaburate on our main site AvatarCreations.net which does what it says on the box for acadmics and professional people.. ! have “physical” online work as a host in two blues clubs. I have about 15 friends I see regularly 4 or 5m close. My work pays for clothes for my avatar and for my island. I am learning how to manage a blues club.I listen to lectures and meditate in The Buddhist Center. Sometimes I struggle a tad but its a new business and I live on disability
i use the internet,. one night firefox was a bit sluggish. I had 64 tabs open. I read, I design, I make animations and movies (300 and something on youtube). I have news headlines the BBC on tap AND the blogospere. There are no restrictions on my use. Now tou know wht i opened with what I did.
No I won’t go on about EVERYONE SHOULD HAVE A DOMAIN again. Just sayin I’ve done a site that is more global at http://nhys.biz now host your site. More resurrections to rebuild my empire . Be ready tomorrow. So started it all off seriously in 2001 with this logo A gold Isis1 (Irish Secure Internet Services) carrying Irish Secure. Still looks good. 11 years later. The site was dominated by encryption, not heard much these day, people seem to be resigned to the fact that ALL their emails are read. Ho hum. There is no privacy so I don’t know why people want to be “private”. i can encrypt, I know the code. But why? I have nothing to hide. Lets ask what you think, a straw poll :
I came across a great video you might like. Here it is :
I think this is all very exciting “Collaborative Consumption” We all have skills and I bet they are marketable. my skills are setting up domains and WordPress blogs. And too web site design. I’ve given up the idea of making a fortune, the prices I charge (Domain registration is cost) are enough to keep things going. Like tens of thousands of others in the world e.g. Linux programmers, its the satisfaction of doing a good job and enriching peoples lives is what turns me on. This is my “Reputation Dashboard” . The Internet is vast, the amount of knowledge is endless. Social Networking has become the main driver behind so many people getting online for longer and longer. I have a 24/7 connection high speed upload and download. With the advent of fiber optics connections from anywhere to anywhere will be instantaneous. YouTube for example will accept 2 gigabyte video files. The only place to effect change is through The Internet, a letter to your Congressman will not cut the mustard.
I set up this blog just over a month ago and have had over a thousand views. Not bad. You will also see I figure quite highly in the search engines. I love writing. Not especially good at it but love doing it. Wish people would leave comments so I get some feedback. Ho Hum. Hold The Presses. Breaking News. The Famous Avatar Dude Starship now has his own Domain called DudeStarship.com. He earned the €10 by hosting in second life. What a Dude a……..

A: We can see no need for uninstallation and have therefore made no provision for light bulbs to be removed.Q: How many MicroSoft tech support people dies it take to change a light bulb? A: We have an exact copy of the light bulb here, and it seems to be working fine. Can you tell me what kind of system you have? Okay. Now exactly how dark is it? Okay, there could be 4 or 5 things wrong…have you tried the light switch?Q: How many MicroSoft technicians does it take to change a light bulb? A: Three. Two to hold the ladder and one to hammer the bulb into a faucet.Q: How many MicroSoft vice presidents does it take to change a light bulb? A: Eight. One to work the bulb, and seven to make sure that MicroSoft gets $2 for every light bulb ever changed anywhere in the world.
Q: How many MicroSoft testers does it take to change a light bulb? A: We just determine that the room is dark; we don’t actually change the bulb. Since we have a dead-bulb result on file from a previous test, rest assured that Development is working on a bug fix.
Q: How many MicroSoft shipping department personnel does it take to change a light bulb? A: We can change the bulb in 7 to 10 working days. If you call before 2 PM, and pay an extra $15, we can get the bulb changed overnight. Don’t forget to put your name in the upper right hand corner of the light bulb box.
Q: How many Windows users does it take to change a light bulb? A: One. But they’ll swear up and down that it was JUST as easy as it would be for a Mac user.
Q: How many MicroSoft managers does it take to change a light bulb? A: We’ve formed a task force to study the problem of why light bulbs burn out, and to determine what, exactly, we as supervisors can do to make the bulbs work smarter, not harder.
Q: How many MicroSoft engineers does it take to change a light bulb? A: None. Bill Gates will just redefine Darkness(TM) as the new industry standard.
Note 1 Isis was worshipped as the ideal mother and wife as well as the patroness of nature and magic. She was the friend of slaves, sinners, artisans, and the downtrodden, and she listened to the prayers of the wealthy, maidens, aristocrats, and rulers.
I was never very good at Art. At school I had all these brilliant ideas, my imagination flew, but when it came to putting pencil to paper, well even my stick men looked stupid. technology has always been a love of mine. At 5 years old my dad would bring me home instruments and magnets to play with. He worked in Smiths Industries making things like tachometers. I’m good at manipulating software. Ah but Photoshop I could never come to grips with. I did an online course and got the basics sorted but the more sophisticated stuff is beyond me.
However I can do a bit. Here is an attempt; This is a background i captured from the 3d world blue mars:
Then using Photoshop I captured avatars and removed their backgrounds and put them in and made this :
This is my first attempt at using Photoshop. i have a long way to go. Please right click on the pictures and View Image. They are very big. I have set up a gallery in sl called Don’t Panic. Here is the idea :
They get a website out of it too. It might just be a profile picture or it might be a whole scene. We will see. Meanwhile here is my best attempt so far :
What do you get? A Broken Link. And two results one to wiki and one to a book:
A clear explanation and provocative look at the impact of new technologies on world society.
Needing guidance and seeking insight, the Council of Europe approached Pierre Lévy, one of the world’s most important and well-respected theorists of digital culture, for a report on the state (and, frankly, the nature) of cyberspace. The result is this extraordinary document, a perfectly lucid and accessible description of cyberspace-from infrastructure to practical applications-along with an inspired, far-reaching exploration of its ramifications. A window on the digital world for the technologically timid, the book also offers a brilliant vision of the philosophical and social realities and possibilities of cyberspace for the adept and novice alike.
WRITTEN IN 2001 fer gods sake. We were using dial ups …….jeez.!
Cyberculture.wordpress.com ……Taken down by author no longer available,
Really I ask you. Is Cyberculture not a viable term? HUH? What Happened? Idiots just don’t keep up so I’m pissed off. I’ve been at this Internet game for 16 years! Sixteen Fucking Y E A R S. Still I seem to be running backwards to keep up. So I’m Pissed Off……again. Here is my first Irish Secure Internet Site.
The Wayback Machine is an historical archive of preserved web pages. Type in a URL and start surfing through time!
Most societies agree that it is important to preserve artifacts of their culture and heritage. Without such artifacts, civilization has no memory and no mechanism to learn from its successes and failures. Our culture now produces more and more artifacts in digital form. Internet Archive’s mission is to help preserve those artifacts and create an Internet library for researchers, historians, and scholars.
